I met Paul the way I’ve met other famous people. I ask them for a favor.
His favor was to do an interview with me back in 2006 or so.
Since then I’ve done many interviews with him as well as partnered with him in producing a live show about his life called Wheres God When…
Paul is unique for many reasons not the least of which is that his book The Shack has sold well over 20 million copies and was made into a major motion picture.
He told me that they estimate that every copy of The Shack that was purchased gets handed around about 10 times.
But here’s what really sets Paul apart for me.
He doesn’t lie.
I’m not sure what the exact precentages are but experience has taught me that many men with his level of influence lie, translated- they fail to tell the truth about themselves.
The dark stuff.
There are so few male Christian leaders who don’t lie that when you find one they tend to stand out. That’s what drew me to Paul.
In this R.A.D. Interview I ask Paul where he first learned about retiring and how he thinks about it now. I ask him about aging, he’s 70 and has had some health scares and I also ask him what he’s looking forward to as he approaches dying.
Since one of my unavoidable upcoming life experiences is being dead, I was particularly interested in his response to this topic :-)
One more thing, Paul descibes himself as a Follower of The Sermon on the Mount Jesus
I really like that. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue but once it hits the ear… it’s fire
